About Africa Fair

Passionate about design, and inspired by the colorful creativity of Africa's artists, Jennifer Fair set up Africa Fair in 2002. Her strong belief was that local artists and designers could successfully sell their products in international markets. This belief, combined with her desire to move out of the corporate world, motivated her to create a niche business focused on matching the finest African art and design with international lovers of Africa's unique style.

Africa Fair began by focusing on contemporary fashion accessories and launched the first collection in New York in November 2002. It included hooked rug handbags from Mielie, Philippa Green silver and perspex cuffs and Get Wired crocheted wire and bead jewellery. Customers include Printemps Design at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, 107 Rivoli at the Louvre in Paris, Le Bon Marche in Paris, the Museum of Art and Design in New York and Human Woman in Japan.

In 2005 Africa Fair became the South African representative for Amaridian, a contemporary gallery-cum-retail space that was launched in May 2006 in Soho, New York. Jennifer assisted in sourcing works of fine art and design from over 50 artists and crafters, including oils by Colbert Mashile and Robert Hodgins, ceramics from Astrid Dahl and Ntombi Nala, furniture from Egg Design and Gregor Jenkin and woven baskets from Clive Sitohle (wire) and Ruben Ndwandwe (Ilala palm). The response to the gallery has been overwhelmingly positive with the public expressing much interest in the contemporary feel and sophistication of the work. The gallery has been covered widely in the US press including the New York Times, Interior Design Magazine, Vogue Living and Harpers Bazaar.

Recently Africa Fair launched our Lodge and Hotel Collection aimed at the local South African market. We have had an overwhelming response and have also branched into the area of corporate gifts for lodge clients.
