South African Design Attracts the Attention of Paris's Big Stores

Cape Town, July 20, 2005 - Ranges from The Africa Fair Collection designed by South African contemporary fashion accessory designers have been stocked by a number of leading museum and design stores in Europe and the USA.

In Paris, 107 Rivoli at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs and Printemps Design at the Pompidou Centre are carrying items from the Sculpt and Spirit Ranges, launched at Premiere Classe in January.

The Sculp range is inspired by African forms and patterns and includes striking pieces in wrapped and forged silver as well as bracelets and cuffs made in the interesting combination of Perspex decorated with silver or nylon.

The Spirit range captures the colors and energy of South Africa with funky necklaces and bracelets made from paper beads, images of local brands and fashion shoots, crocheted wire and beads and antique trade beads. The works are made by different South African designers and craft groups including; Alchemy, Beverley Price, Get Wired, Hanan Yanny, Nicola Savages and Philippa Green.

The unique hooked rug handbags that are also part of the Spirit range will be stocked by the museum store at the newly re-launched Museum of Arts and Design, in New York City. The black and white 60's image necklaces will be sold at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.

Africa Fair will be launching their Spring/Summer 06 collection at Premiere Classe in September. There will be two ranges for the season, the Nature range is reflecting the natural environment found in Africa and will introduce South African flower patterns inspired by the local fynbos plants, including the protea. The Sparkle range captures the explosion of color and playful spirit found on Cape Town's beaches in the holiday season, conjuring up memories of bright summer days.
