Africa Fair – The Contemporary African Accessory Brand Expands its Distribution to the West Coast

New York USA, August 8, 2003 – Africa Fair launched its contemporary African accessory collection in New York in December 2002 and has recently expanded distribution to Los Angeles. The range has been created by a select group of top South African fashion and fashion accessory designers.

The lines are a modern interpretation of the designers’ African environments. Combining traditional and innovative materials, each piece has a sophisticated urban slant. The collection currently consists of work by seven designers.

The jewelry range includes; SamJ’s whimsical floral necklaces and wire and glass bead lariats; Hanan Yanny’s cutting edge sequined and paper necklaces; Get Wired’s surprising combination of crocheted wire and bead cuffs and chokers; Alchemy’s delicately handcrafted pieces of semi-precious stones and antique beads; and Savage’s stylish silver line worn by both men and women and recently seen on the runways of South African Fashion Week.

The handbag range consists of two lines; Get Wired applies the same technique used to create their jewelry to various styles of day and evening bags; and the free spirited Mielie line includes both funky one-of-a-kind hooked rug bags and knotted fringed leather bags. The collection also includes a line of shoes designed by Maya Prass, winner of the South African Young Designer Award. Her sequined sari slides come in a number of vibrant seasonal color combinations.

Africa Fair’s lines can be found in the following New York stores – Midoma, Upper East Side and Tracy Feith, Nolita as well as Comina which has a number of location across New England. Lines were recently picked up in Los Angeles by Princepessa and Wolf in Venice and a. mason in Santa Monica.
